About Route 1 Car Wash at Shell

In Alexandria, washes are busiest on sunny weekends and the first dry day after rain or a snowstorm, when lines back onto the street; weekday mornings are the quietest. Across Virginia, expect a basic exterior wash to cost about what a fast-food meal does, with wax, tire shine and undercarriage rinse sold as tiers above it. Self-service bays are the cheapest way to clean a truck bed, a muddy off-roader or a vehicle that will not fit a tunnel, and many run around the clock. Check the listing for the wash type, hours, free vacuums, unlimited plans and whether the site accepts cards or app payments, then call ahead in freezing weather, when tunnels close.

No hours are on file. If you plan a visit, phone first or check the Google Maps link on this page for the latest times. No phone number is listed for this business, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best route for directions and any contact details Google has on file.

Its Google rating stands at 2.9 out of 5 from 44 reviews, which is below average for the category; consider the recent reviews carefully before visiting.

Honestly, I haven’t tried it yet, but after seeing the reviews, I understood why people don’t recommend it. Good thing I didn’t waste my money. Washing my car myself is better anyway.🤣🤷‍♂️

To call this a car wash is a disgrace to the hallowed trade of washing cars. There are no brushes or any kind of scrubbing...it just sprays soap and then sprays water...my car is dirtier than when it went in....save your money ladies

The manual car wash barely works and is there for namesake. Automated carwash is fine. Worst of all, the gas price is much higher than nearby stations and they decline the shell rewards discount. I'd stay away unless it's a necessity.

I had a really solid experience at Route 1 Car Wash, and for just $14, it honestly felt like a steal. I got the works package, and everything from start to finish felt smooth, efficient, and worth it. What really stood out, though, was the guy working that day—he greeted me with a smile, spoke kindly, and made me feel like a valued customer, not just another car in line. Before I even entered the wash, he took the time to really spray my car down thoroughly, making sure it was ready for the automatic wash. That extra effort goes a long way in my book, so I tipped him an extra $3, which he added right to my card. It felt well earned. The location itself is a smaller gas station setup, but they make the most of the space. They’ve got five big vacuums out front, and four or five of the more traditional vacuums too, so you’ve got options and don’t really have to wait around. Everything was working, clean, and easy to use. The setup makes it super convenient whether you’re doing a quick clean or a full deep detail. I appreciated that it didn’t feel crowded, and the layout was actually really user-friendly. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this spot. It’s affordable, the service is fr

Car wash clearly didn’t clean my car. I spent $17 on the Super Deluxe car wash and my car was filthy afterwards. They would not refund my money when I asked for a refund. I will have to dispute the charge with my Credit Card. Terrible car wash and terrible customer service!!!
